Jack Adams is the kiss of death for a coach.
So is Gully coming back? I'm thinking a 50-50 chance.
The one to go for sure is Dave Cameron. |

I'm with you there. Could see Gulutzan coming back, which I'd be OK with. Someone definitely needs to fall on the sword for that power play. |

good call on Cameron.
Bring in Tim H to take his spot, and serve as a Back up if Gully can't pull up his socks.
Is Neal an answer to the RW problems? I'm really on the fence with him. Did he use all the gas in the tank for this season? Maybe playoffs will show what he has left in the tank |

Or fire em all and bring in Alain Vigneault. |

No, if Gulutzan gets fired, it should be for a guy who is leaps and bounds the better choice. AV is not that guy. |

In the playoffs 10 of last 12 years, past the 1st round 7 times, and 2 times to cup finals. Yeah he's terrible. |

Did you happen to look at the rosters he had? Might have had something to do with his success. |

I am not saying he's terrible....but he has been accused of horrible player usage by people in Vancouver AND in New York too. Literally the one thing everyone complains about with GG, is AV's biggest downfall as well.
At least be consistent! |

Maybe it is his biggest downfall but both NYR and Van had their franchise best seasons points wise with him as coach. I know he had great players but only good coaches get these kind of opportunities. He'd be cost prohibitive and I suspect that'll prevent it from happening. Can't imagine Edwards want to pay $4ish million per to a coach. |

AV relies heavily on a strong goaltender for his success. |

He was out coached in the playoffs on both teams. Never able to make adjustments and says it his “I leave it to the players” approach. Also not a great track record growing young players, he loves his vets and leans on them heavily.
Where the flames are at, I wouldn’t see him as a fit. If a coaching change is needed it’s one that will push identity and work ethic forward (not sutter but a sutter like that deals with speed and not 4 lines of grinders). |

Can you even name a single area where he's objectively better than Gulutzan? |

I think he's better at how he uses his best players and knows how to play to their strengths. I also think he's better at matching lines and exploiting mismatches in certain games. He plays a more up tempo game and has more of a counter punching offence which I like. I have no idea what he's like with the players but he has achieved a very good winning record throughout his career so I think he gets more out of his teams than Gulutzan has shown. I am biased from watching how good those Canuck team were which I know had great players but they were really playing well for quite a few years with him as their coach.

He runs a far better powerplay, he has a far better track record with a NYR roster that is not much better than ours.
Subjectively, in my opinion his zone entry plays are more diverse, he won't stubbornly keep veterans in roles they're not succeeding in, he matches lines better.
I'm OK with Gulu sticking around, but I think AV is the better coach. Wasn't happy about Brouwer's usage, having that drop pass as our only zone entry on powerplays, and having two left handed defensemen on our 5 on 3 unit. Gulu has his flaws.
Just my two cents. |
